Important IFCKC News For Wednesday 8/17/2016:
Hello! While we’ve been focusing on the website and social media for most of the news of meetings and events this year, there are a few things going on in our film community that I thought I’d make sure went out through all of our communication avenues this week.
First of all, many of you will have heard that Rick Cowan recently passed away. Rick was a huge supporter of independent filmmaking and the Kansas City film community, and many of the best and brightest filmmakers to play in this world of ours had the pleasure of his quick wit, great feedback, and skilled assistance and leadership in thier journeys as storytellers. Rick was an important and loved part of our community, and his loss is a great one for us all. If you knew or worked with Rick, we encourage you to join his friends and family at the Big Damned Wrap Party aka Rick’s Wrap Party tonight, Wednesday August 17th, at The Guild.
There is also a GoFundMe campaign up to help Rick’s wife with funeral and party expenses, and we encourage you to help support his family at this time of need.
Also tonight – because sometimes the world works like that – we also have the 48 Hour Film Project Game Night at Tapcade, in support of the 2016 48 Hour Film Project – Kansas City event that kicks off this Friday, August 19th.
If you are putting together a team or looking to join one, this night of free games and networking is a great opportunity for you to get together with other filmmakers and play before you do everything in your power to make a film that blows all of the competition out of the water. The IFCKC will be having our weekly meeting there at the event – in a much shortened form, we promise – and we encourage anyone who isn’t attending Rick’s Wrap Party to join us there.
Why, you may ask, are we having a meeting when all of this is going on? Well, because it’s also IFCKC Board Election time, and Open Nominations are continuing until August 24th and we need to allow the membership to have an opportunity to make nominations for themselves or those they think would be a great addition to the leadership of the IFCKC for the 2016-2017 Board. If you are interested or know someone who would be, please let us know by emailing us at [email protected] Nominations will close on the 24th and nominees will have the opportunity to tell the membership what they would do for the organization that Wednesday night when we return to our regular home at the Buffalo Room. Ballots will go out on the 25th, and will need to be returned by the 31st for tallying and announcement of the new Board.
We hope that you will take this opportunity to make your voices heard as members of the IFCKC, and help is set the direction the IFCKC takes over the next year and beyond.
Whatever you do this Wednesday night, I personally would like to both remind you that we are very lucky to have the kind of film community we have here in Kansas City, and thank all of you for being a part of it.
